Nia (pronounced “NEE-uh”) is a low impact movement
class that was born out of the aerobics movement of the 1970s and early
1980s. Originally called “Non-Impact Aerobics,” Debbie and Carlos
Rosas, very successful aerobics business owners, sought to pioneer a way
to incorporate the fun and cardiovascular benefits of aerobics without
chronic injury to the joints. A new revolution was born, and today’s
Nia (now Neuromuscular Integrative Action = Mind/Body/Spirit Fitness) is
the end product of decades of study of healing movement for the body.
Join Nia Certified Brown Belt Instructor Sandy Enke in her 6th year of teaching this soulful, barefoot, world beat experience, which embodies myriad benefits from the Martial Arts (Tae Kwon Do, Aikido, Tai Chi), Dance Arts (Modern Dance, Duncan Dance, Jazz) and Healing Arts (Yoga, Alexander Technique, Feldenkrais, Systemic Movement, breath focus and meditation). Classes are taught in 3 levels, are accessible to all age groups, honor and welcome all body types and levels of fitness, and are open to men and women alike.
Described by her students as “grounding,” “a spa treatment for the body,” “rejuvenating,” and even at times, "intense" and “outrageous,” Sandy’s class leaves her participants feeling ready to tackle the everyday stress that bombards us. Exercise doesn’t have to hurt us to be effective and functional.
Her "NEW TO NIA WORKSHOP" will be held Tuesday, January 11th, 2011 from 9:30-11:00 AM. $15.00 will include the class & workshop. Attend Sandy's New To Nia Workshop to familiarize yourself with Nia choreography and principles followed by the beginner level Nia classes. ~ Pre-registration required directly with Sandy by January 4th, 2011 ~
